Pres. GMA’s stance on UN funding for natural family planning lauded

(Sept 16, 2005) Officers and members of the Alliance for the Family Foundation, led by its President Rosie Luistro, commended President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo because of “her very brave and powerful speech” before the gathering of Leaders in the Inter-Faith dialogue at the United Nations on Sept. 13, 2005, as reported in Philippine media.

In her speech, Mrs. Arroyo indicated that she will devote the funding assistance from the UN “for reproductive health projects exclusively to the training of couples in the use and propagation of the Billings Ovulation Technology as a means of protecting the reproductive health of Filipina women,” eschewing the use of artificial contraceptives and devices as threats to women’s health.
The Alliance for the Family Foundation described the declaration of Mrs. Arroyo as “timely, realistic and relevant” and “the only real way we can protect the reproductive health of our women”. President Rosie Luistro pointed out that in fact, research studies funded by the Pharmaceutical Industry, no less, have shown as early as 1985 that hormonal contraceptives are very real threat to women’s health because – among others – they cause significant elevation of blood pressure, and have been proven to be trigger mechanisms of various forms of women’s cancers and many other ailments hitherto unpublished and unknown to women.
A book published in the Philippines by John Wilkes of Australia where he examined research findings of thousands of studies demonstrated beyond any doubt that the pill and other hormonal preparations as well as contraceptives devices like the intra-uterine device are abortifacients in slow motion, since women hardly realize they are aborting their pregnancies.
“The President can rely on our Foundation to support her in this program and we commit ourselves to provide technical expertise where needed in her planned propagation of the Billings Ovulation Technology.” Luistro assured.
